From humble beginnings in 1926 to becoming a cherished part of local life today, the centenary event promises to be a fitting tribute to the people, places, and stories that have shaped the journey over the past 100 years.

This celebration is about honouring everyone who has been part of our story. From those who laid the foundations a century ago to the people carrying that legacy forward today.

Centenary Celebrations Planned

The centenary event will bring together past and present members, families and supporters, for a day of celebration, nostalgia, and entertainment.

Planned activities include:

  • Historical exhibitions featuring archive photographs

  • Live entertainment and ceremonial performances from our Combined Cadet Force

  • Community activities for all ages

  • Refreshments and commemorative displays

  • A retrospective showcase of 100 years of memories through the guided tours

What started as a modest venture in the early 20th century has grown alongside the community it serves. Through world wars, changing generations, and enormous social change, the OWA has remained a constant presence.

Organisers are also inviting former members, staff, volunteers, and families to contribute their own photographs and memories to help create a living timeline of the organisation’s history.

Whether it was childhood memories, milestone celebrations, lifelong friendships, or community support in difficult times, the centenary is a chance to reflect on the impact made over 100 extraordinary years.

While the centenary is a time to celebrate history, it is also a moment to look to the future. The event is not simply about remembering the past—but inspiring the next generation to continue the story. For many, it will be more than an event. It will be a homecoming. We look forward to seeing many of you there.
